Description

Playhead is a puzzle-platformer based inside a media player that uses the familiar timeline ui to manipulate time and progress through the levels. We plan on having an early noughties web cartoon art style with a variety of environments and playlists to explore. The story is that you are a bot looking for glitches in the system and trying to fix them. The game will resemble online video sharing sites and will include a loose storyline told through the comments section allowing us to further showcase our Dislectek Tool.

History

Ally has had this idea since around 2011. He has always had a curiosity for some kinda time travel based media based on the youtube time scrubber. Some concepts were drawn up, influenced by “Braid” but nothing came of it for many years. At a game jam in 2018 where the theme was time, Ally decided this would be a great chance to test the idea. When he found that it was relatively easy to make an animation follow the progress on a unity slider he managed to test out a bunch of ideas during the jam. After this Ally knew this was an idea worth doing right as it was well received at any in person events it was showcased at. Ally slowly chipped away at some new features and the art style. Then in 2021 a successful pitch to “The UK Games Fund” allowed Ally and programmer Sam to work on the game full time for a few months as well as some original music from musician and composer Luci Holland. The game is now at a point where most of the mechanics are done. Most of the levels are completed in a grey box form. They will be playtested and tweaked loads before launch.
